<br /></div>
<div>
today, i would like to share a story with you.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
it is short and sweet, not unlike the darling angels i work with who NEVER cause me stress and headaches and inspire Wine Time in the middle of the week.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
today, i want to tell you about a game we like to play on the playground this year. and about snappy comebacks.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
well, probably not snappy per se, but definitely comebacks.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
actually i'm not even sure it could be classified as a comeback........but it was DEFINITELY cute, and i enjoyed it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
SO. to start, the children have this game they really enjoy that concerns other teachers we bump into out there on the playground and substitutes as well who haven't witnessed it before. they (the children, you silly goose, not the other teachers) like to lie down on their tummies at the top of one of the slides, any of the slides, hold on to the sides, and scream out "HELP HELP!", at which point one of their friends comes running, shouting "I WILL HELP YOU!" and pulls them back up. or perhaps the one on the slide falls down the slide. but hey! that's fun too.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
they also have a game where they enjoy getting the rakes and the shovels out and making piles out of the mulch, and then STOMPING ON THEM. because what's more fun than being godzilla? not much, let me tell ya.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
so today, Girl was Very Busy making a Super Awesome Pile with a broom (it didn't seem terribly effective) and getting frustrated when the boys consistently drove their lawnmowers over it when she heard one of her friends from the Very Tallest Twisty Slide going "HELP GIRL HELP! I NEED HELP!"</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Girl was not phased. she did not even look up from her sweeping to shout back, "GOD WILL SAVE YOU. I'M BUSY SWEEPING."</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
as i'm sure you can imagine, her good buddy ended up going down the slide.</div>

<br />
that's a thing, you guys.<br />
<br />
it's a thing that's happening now.<br />
<br />
AND it's a thing that i do.<br />
<br />
and what's MORE is it's a thing that's happening now that i do that i haven't discussed with you yet this year.<br />
<br />
DEAL WITH IT.<br />
<br />
because today, today you get the First Star Ponies Story of the Year.<br />
<br />
which, quite frankly, there are several you could have gotten earlier, like when Girl declared that the one mommy doll wanted to marry the one daddy doll but he was kissing the other mommy doll, or when Boy sliced his cheek open on some unknown object before school even started for the day so his mother rushed him off to the hospital instead of coming to school, or perhaps when Girl moved to ohio and i cried because i'd babysat her family several times, and i'd had her brother for two years before her and i loved him and i loved her and i loved their parents and i was Very Very Sad.<br />
<br />
but no.<br />
<br />
those are not the stories i am sharing with you today.<br />
<br />
DEAL WITH IT.<br />
<br />
today i want to tell you about the end of the day today, at dismissal, as we were leaving.<br />
<br />
Boy's mother was holding him, and as i was going back to clean up my room she stopped me to tell me that her mother-in-law would be picking up and dropping off Boy tomorrow, and so i'd know who she was at pick up after i saw her at drop off. then she asked Boy if he was ready for his grandmother to get him tomorrow. he very enthusiastically was. so, i of course gave him a double thumbs up. because that is what you DO when the children are excited. and quite frankly all the time. thumbs up is awesome.<br />
<br />
ANYWAY.<br />
<br />
Boy looked at my thumbs, looked at his hands, wiggled his fingers around a bit in an attempt to get his hands to mimic mine, then gave up on that effort, stuck up both of his index fingers, and shouted "TWO STICKS!" and so, awesome teacher that *i* am, i also held up my index fingers and agreed, TWO STICKS!<br />
<br />
this led to FOUR STICKS!, FIVE STICKS!, and THREE STICKS!<br />
<br />
that may sound somewhat confusing and difficult to accomplish based on his previous formula of two fingers, two sticks, until i tell you that four, five, and three were the number of fingers held up on each hand.<br />
<br />
and it was adorable.<br />
<br />
and also?<br />
<br />
i will not be giving thumbs up anymore.<br />
<br />
TWO STICKS! will now reign supreme.<br />
<br />
because i like it. because it's cute. because it will confuse the ever living out of pretty much everyone i encounter. which, as we all know, is how i like it. and because i freaking said so.<br />
<br />
TWO STICKS!Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-33568938239701147292012-08-06T12:00:00.000-04:002012-08-06T12:02:43.384-04:00get ready to read, homies. this got LONG. don't say i didn't warn you. because i did.ok, so, i promised you Wonderful Adventures With Harry Potter, drank a bit, wrote a post, promised myself i'd edit it and post it the next day, then didn't. for months.<br />
<br />
DEAL WITH IT.<br />
<br />
instead what i did was weddings. lots and lots of weddings.<br />
<br />
and they Aren't Done Yet.<br />
<br />
also, by lots and lots, i mean three (3).<br />
<br />
one in june, one in july, and one this coming sunday.<br />
<br />
so instead of Wonderful Adventures with Harry Potter, you're getting Delightful Misadventures in Weddings. which is almost as good, but a lot less magical.<br />
<br />
DEAL WITH IT.<br />
<br />
i'd tell you i'd tell you about each wedding individually, but please, i'm not going to do that. i'll do one or two then abandon you again. because that's What I Do. SO! we're gonna cram all three together here, even though one's in the FUTURE (oooOOOOOoooooOOOOooooOOOoooh!)<br />
<br />
......yes.<br />
<br />
so let's hop to it, and then maybe at a later date i'll inform you in-depth of my new-found Hatred of Weddings.<br />
<br />
JUNE<br />
this wedding went down in minnesota. which was AWESOME. if you don't know, i luff minnesota. a lot. it's kind of my Most Favorite Place of All Time. i stayed for a week. i almost didn't come home (shhh, don't tell me family OR employers. they'd all be sad). the wedding itself was both awesome and ridiculous, and i didn't know anyone going in except the bride (beth)(former roommate)(she looked STUNNING. all caps), the groom (paul)(met him a couple times), and the bridesmaid that i was staying with (gabby)(also former roommate). ALLEGEDLY, if you listen to SOME people, the best man and i had met before and therefore i knew him, but i truthfully don't remember him. it makes me feel badly because apparently when the first thing you say to a person is "hi, i don't know you!" and then you bear hug them, you make an impression and they remember you, but you don't remember them because you do that to EVERYBODY.<br />
<br />
sorry, joel. i'll remember you now. promise. might not recognize you if i run into you on the street or something, but i'll remember you.<br />
<br />
anyway, the ceremony was lovely and catholic so the priest talked a LOT about beth and paul having kids (actual quote? "i hope you populate the earth with children." yikes.) and almost no one knew what was happening because almost no one was catholic. oh well.<br />
<br />
reception was delightful. lasted a long time, but the food was good and i made friends with people i don't remember their names (except you, joel, i remember you) and we DANCED. i danced like a FOOL, because that is How I Roll. oh,and i took no pictures. because i didn't feel like bothering with a camera. actually, i don't even know if i brought one to the mn with me at all....huh.<br />
<br />
and then i almost never left minnesota. and i got re-addicted to caribou, which was unfortunate because there are VERY FEW near me. and it was all-around a delightful time. and now, we shall fast-forward to<br />
<br />
JULY<br />
when we debuted Maid-of-Honor Rachel. we've seen Bridesmaid Rachel a few times, but this was a new model. we don't really need this one again (baby sister, i'm looking at YOU)(i mean i love you)(a lot). it was a touch more stressful than the previously viewed model, although not much because danielle and gene's wedding was (for me, the Not Bride [woo!]) pretty relaxed and easy. the ceremony was lovely, danielle was GORGEOUS (all caps again.....august's bride has a lot to live up to, CHRISTINA), danielle managed not to cry (barely, apparently....being behind her i couldn't see her face...LAME), and it was awesomely drizzly all day. OH, and i allegedly made a 6 year old cry (token child reference!). i also got to dance with him (that kid is the Best Dancer Ever), and i managed to talk him into eating his fettuccine with a fork and not his fingers, and also using a napkin. the fact he was in my class a few years back and my sunday school class last year probably helped. miss stone Does Not Mess Around, nor does she Suffer Fools.<br />
<br />
OH, you're probably wondering about making a child cry. i made a lot of people cry. i gave a Very Nice Toast. i did NOT cry, but i did tear up, which is a Big Deal, for verily i Hardly Ever cry.<br />
<br />
also? definitely ripped my speech from someone. have some credit! 16:40-18:30. that's mine. and shawn's.<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/KlQhOfyOmcU" width="420"></iframe><br />
<br />
definitely teared up watching it again. because apparently that's what i do now. i tear up and i cry. it needs to stop.<br />
<br />
and then it was drizzly out and humid like woah, so my hair was a frizzy curled hairsprayed mess that took me several days to brush out. but it was still super awesome.<br />
<br />
and that leads us into<br />
<br />
AUGUST<br />
and that wedding hasn't happened yet, but the BACHELORETTE party happened, and it was AWESOME.<br />
<br />
that is all i will say about that. you don't get any more information because it isn't important.<br />
<br />
you CAN know that the impending nuptials shall occur this sunday, the 12th, and that they're super mega fancy (at least compared to the other two this summer) and that super mega fancy things tend to make me all nervous and uncomfortable, but that we (the people of the bridal party) have been informed by the bride that we're allowed to change out of our deLIGHTful floor length taffeta (rachel hates taffeta...makes noises when it moves and when you scratch it and she Always Has to Scratch it Because it Makes Sounds and it Drives Her Crazy) halfway through the reception so we don't have to wear them all day. i'm pretty super psyched about it.<br />
<br />
SO! those are weddings. eventually i'll have pictures of danielle and gene's...soon, probably, because i'm going to go see her tomorrow and i'm totally going to look at them then. and probably steal a bunch. because that's how i roll. and even later than that i'll have chris and christina wedding pictures, but not this week. the wedding isn't even HAPPENING until this week is over. i don't know what you're thinking. but someday you'll get to see them, and maybe someday i'll even post Wonderful Adventures with Harry Potter for you.<br />
<br />
but only maybe.<br />
<br />
also this got way longer than expected, and it wasn't even in-depth. so, sorry or something i guess.<br />
<br />
maybe.Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-36632119233151955892012-05-04T23:12:00.000-04:002012-05-04T23:13:24.179-04:00it's star wars day, you guys. that has nothing to do with this post at all.i don't know if i've mentioned this or not ever, but i might be having a slightly stressful year. my class might be a little difficult to work with. i might be a little bit exhausted constantly.<br />
<br />
maybe.<br />
<br />
with this in mind, as well as the fact that my good friend amanda who lives in florida managed to find herself in possession of an excess ticket to universal islands of adventure through a series of events, i decided i needed to take a vacation to florida so that i could hang out at hogwarts. so i booked it. and i went there last weekend.<br />
<br />
and it was the BEST WEEKEND EVER.<br />
<br />
partly because not ONCE the whole weekend did i feel that life in prison wouldn't be too very terrible (i feel that way a LOT at preschool these days). and partly because it was full of harry potter and drinkings and random cruising around florida listening to the slightly nonsensical kate nash at high volumes.<br />
<br />
i skipped school on friday. i called in a sub, and i woke up, and i went to the airport instead of my classroom. and it Totally Rocked Out Loud.<br />
<br />
did you ever skip school? wasn't it the BEST (full disclosure: i only skipped school once ever before i hit college, and it was totally condoned by my mother. TRUTH.)? well, guess what. skipping school when you're the teacher is even better. no lie.<br />
<br />
i say it rocked out loud, and that's even including the fact that i hate airports and airplanes and other people and i managed to forget what airline i was traveling on and almost had a panic attack at the ticketing counter when delta had no record of my reservation. airtran hooked me up, though, and it turned out fine.<br />
<br />
THEN, when i was still on edge from almost not having a flight because the airports Should Have Known i was going to Mess Up My Flight Stuff, security chose to harp on the fact that i hadn't put my liquids in a clear plastic bag AND hadn't removed them. quite frankly, i never do either of those things, and it's never been an issue. i usually just get "ok, well, remember next time." THIS time, however, they had to remove All of the Liquid Things and rerun it all. did you know i don't like airports?<br />
<br />
eventually i made it past all that, and got on my plane, and i had a nice window seat (i feel Very Secure in window seats....center seats give me touches of claustrophobia while the aisle gives me touches of agoraphobia. the window lets me see what's up below and i have a wall to escape other people against) in the exit row. wooo. i also had a three hour layover in atlanta which happened to be in the ONLY terminal without a starbucks and i ended up with a really gross cup of coffee thanks to seattle's best coffee (it is NOT. the best part is a LIE).<br />
<br />
on the way from atlanta to tampa, i did my usual: i got on the plane, sat in my seat, pulled out a book and my ipod, and generally made it Very Clear that i was Not Going to Be Talking to You, Person Next to Me. this is a move that Never Fails, and i was all geared up to read my book and listen to my jams (all the alone time is the one thing i like about traveling). HOWEVER. for the first time in my life, all my super clear signals failed me, and i ended up talking to the lady next to me for the ENTIRE FLIGHT. granted, she was very nice, and had a lot of stories from when she worked with inner city kids in after school care programs, so she was interesting to talk to, but i very very much do not like talking to people, and it was NOT how i had wanted to spend my hour and a half in a steel tube hurtling through the air.<br />
<br />
eventually i made it to tampa, and then orlando, and i got to play the dual role of bartender and nail technician, and i got to spend the night in a VERY strangely laid out hotel. we stayed in a room on the first floor with a lovely view of the hotel's driveway, because our room was situated between the lobby and the pool/workout center/business center and not next to any other rooms. the only ice machine in the building was located on the seventh floor in a room that housed only it and a stained chair. some of the carpet in the hallways was missing, and the elevator floors were covered with that weird padding stuff that is generally used during construction/renovation, but that was the only sign of any construction/renovation anywhere in the building. <br />
<br />
the only reason i really felt okay staying there was that yoda was on my room key. also apparently amanda had stayed there before and said it was legit. but mostly yoda.<br />
<br />
*stay tuned for witches and wizards and magical beasts*Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-44451253870330168912012-04-18T13:57:00.000-04:002012-04-18T13:57:45.526-04:00it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood...today, it is rainy.<br />
<br />
not terribly so, and not constant, just a bit drizzly here and there.<br />
<br />
Girl walked in to school this morning, hung her school bag up on her hook, took the hood of her raincoat off of her head, looked at me, and said, "it's raining men out there!"<br />
<br />
to which i, of course, had to say, "really? it IS? MEN??"<br />
<br />
and she ever-so-enthusiastically responded with "YES! i have that song on my stereo!"<br />
<br />
of course you do, Girl. of course you do.Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-43992901844198773932012-04-11T14:05:00.000-04:002012-04-11T14:05:41.838-04:00EVIDENCE.remember that time i told you about our <a href="http://marypoppinsesque.blogspot.com/2012/03/maybe-my-vocabulary-is-too-big.html" target="_blank">alphabet books</a> and how they're a Point of Not Awesome for me, because i have Issues With Them?<br />
<br />
it came back to haunt me today.<br />
<br />
most of our class has finished their alphabet books and taken them home, except for one boy and one girl who have Sporadic At Best attendance and therefore haven't finished. Girl was working on hers today. she had to do T, U, and V. her U picture was Totally Awesome....it was "a guy riding a skateboard on an invisible Unicorn Under the sea." and it was all yellow so it was hard to see. it was awesome.<br />
<br />
then we get to V. she looked at me and told me she didn't know what to draw for V. i came up with violin and vest, and another girl sitting across from us said vase. then i hit this gem.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
it is one of my preferred groups of children this year. i mean......i'm a good teacher and have no preferences amongst my children.<br />
<br />
........yes.<br />
<br />
ANYWAY.<br />
<br />
because it is lent (for all you non-liturgical church people out there who don't know. it IS lent. and lent is coming to a close. oh, and it's the season before easter, in case you were unaware for whatever reason you may have), we have been talking about lent and Jesus and easter and dying on the cross and taking away sins and so on and so forth. and while any of my kids can tell you lent starts on ash wednesday, is 40 days long, and at the end is holy week which begins with palm sunday when Jesus rode a donkey and then there's maundy thursday which is a funny name and then good friday when Jesus died and then easter when he rose!, it turns out they aren't actually terribly familiar with the easter story. i learned that with the help of some friends of mine this last sunday, or as i like to call it, palm sunday.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1T-Q6GHQZL4p8TmG0hDZYt8iwKOZzfWfVOzFQjvHixsVr4kqHYfhCATGTnEN5w9uoCK7FzlqZXgxk6OANzEnmrdRN3Z1RgcCqr31gdtT8RBz-rx1evA-5honvC16SW7CTEAn30cfx2IA/s1600/agrfhtyjh.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1T-Q6GHQZL4p8TmG0hDZYt8iwKOZzfWfVOzFQjvHixsVr4kqHYfhCATGTnEN5w9uoCK7FzlqZXgxk6OANzEnmrdRN3Z1RgcCqr31gdtT8RBz-rx1evA-5honvC16SW7CTEAn30cfx2IA/s1600/agrfhtyjh.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">my friends. although probably not my kids' friends.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
these were innocuously brought into our classroom on sunday, just as they were into the two younger classes as well, just as they've been for several years. so i knew my kids had seen them before and knew what they were.<div><br />
</div><div>in case YOU don't know, them there darlin's are called Resurrection Eggs. i love me some Resurrection Eggs (also i keep trying to spell "resurrection" "ressurection," and it doesn't work. lame to the MAX) because they are wonderfully helpful in the easter story. there are 12 plastic eggs and each egg contains something different that relates to the easter story. for instance, the first egg contains a pelt of "donkey fur" (brown felt, really) so we know Jesus rode a donkey into jerusalem, and then there's a palm branch because people laid down palm branches and a cup for the last supper and so on and so forth. they're really pretty fantastic.</div><div><br />
</div><div>so my class gets these eggs, and from the first egg, they don't know what it is or why it's there, and these are kids who can tell you what we talked about several weeks ago and know exactly what's up. they had NO IDEA about ANY of the eggs. that made it SPECIAL fun when we pulled out the small leather strip that is supposed to be the whip. because Jesus was flogged, right? so there's a little whip.</div><div><br />
</div><div>my kids had no idea Jesus got whipped. i spared them the whole "flogging" thing because if i used the word they'd want to know and then i'd have to explain it and i'd probably pass out but they all know 911 i think so maybe it'd be okay? whatever. i got horrified looks from all of them just from saying "whipped."</div><div><br />
</div><div>skip to our next egg. it features a crown of thorns. they all thought it was a bumpy ring. nope. so we talked about what thorns are ("my mom has roses!") and how they made a crown out of them and put it on Jesus. cue more horrified looks. apparently they somehow managed to miss that detail.</div><div><br />
</div><div>the real kicker, though, was the nails. there were three nails, and they had been formed to make a cross. the kids thought there were three swords. nope. they were nails, and of course we all know what they were used for. the kids didn't, of course. one little girl actually yelled at me when i told them. i may have scarred them for life. delightful.</div><div><br />
</div><div>AND THEN.</div><div><br />
</div><div>we got the egg with the spear, and they were told that Jesus got STABBED by a SPEAR, after he'd been WHIPPED and WORN THORNS and been STUCK WITH NAILS. ABJKHIGYTJIEHYPEHASDBJVC.</div><div><br />
</div><div>at this point all they could manage was to shake their heads at the floor dejectedly. it was really kind of sad. but then we opened the last egg, and it was empty, and we were all like, yay the tomb is empty too! Jesus rose! and then they were all fine, as if all the abject terror they'd been shooting at me with their eyes had vaporized.</div><div><br />
</div><div>kids are funny like that.<br />

</tbody></table><br />
it was sudden, unexpected, and totally Not Awesome. quite frankly, i haven't heard yet if they've figured out exactly why he died. last i heard they didn't know. what i DO know is he had alzheimer's for almost 10 years, and has been in facilities for approximately the same amount of time. i know he's had violent episodes, and i know he wasn't "doing too well," although i cannot say for sure what precisely was meant by that.<br />
<br />
i also have to say i didn't know him too very well, since as is the case with pretty much my entire family he lived half the country away from me so i didn't see him too often. the last time i saw him, actually, was at my grandfather's funeral 8 years ago, and at that point in time he was already starting to slip into the alzheimer's. <br />
<br />
my parents were the only ones in my family able to go to the funeral for him (exorbitant airline prices), but my mother came back with lots of pictures of relatives and buffalo (that's south dakota for you), and most importantly a story. tidbit. trivia? pick your word. ANYWAY. what had happened involved my aunt, my uncle, and my cousin, who is also deceased. my cousin aaron died 11 years ago by his own hand, and i still feel like he died yesterday. i miss him terribly, and am unconvinced i will ever move much more past it. that said, my mother came home and told me that while they were out burying my uncle, she asked my aunt sue where aaron was buried, and aunt sue came back with this: when aaron died, they cremated him, and never buried/scattered him anywhere, because nowhere felt right. so she held on to the urn holding him. when uncle john died, it apparently came to her exactly what to do with aaron. and so, aaron's urn was placed in john's casket, and they were buried together.<br />
<br />
that...is probably my most favorite thing in the world. i absolutely miss them both terribly, but there is extreme comfort in knowing they are together. <br />
<br />
AND, now that i am having trouble reading what i'm writing through the cryings, i shall stop, because i think i can go no further at the moment.<br />
<br />
bye, uncle john. and bye, aaron. i love you both.Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-66310656871143224482012-03-06T21:16:00.000-05:002012-03-06T21:16:25.835-05:00maybe my vocabulary is TOO bigQUICK!<br />
<br />
name three to seven nouns that starts with the letter "H" a four year old would know what it was and how to draw it!<br />
<br />
what did you come up with?<br />
<br />
horse, house, hand, hose, and hat?<br />
<br />
cool.<br />
<br />
know what i got?<br />
<br />
heaven, habit, humongous, hatred, homeopathic, and hit.<br />
<br />
i am not good at this game.<br />
<br />
this is a slight problem for me, because at school we have alphabet books that we work in. each go at them requires that three (3) letters be done. doing a letter involves tracing it with your finger, then a marker, then copying it below freehand, then drawing a picture of something that starts with that letter.<br />
<br />
the children tend to want to draw what their friend before them drew, so it isn't a big issue, except when they actually need ideas. because i Suck Royally at that.<br />
<br />
i think the Worst Letter for that is actually "D", which was Very Kindly Pointed Out for me that "D" is a Very Easy Letter for this, because there are things like dragon and dog and doctor and i can't think of anymore because all i can come up with is defunct and dissociate and derelict and devolve and driven and drank and other things that four year olds have NO IDEA WHAT THAT MEANS.<br />
<br />
and quite frankly, even if they DID know any of those words, most of them, as far as i know, are un-illustratable (i think i made that word up. whatever)(also i'm pretty sure they actually know "drank." but i digress. another d word. rockin'.).<br />
<br />
we've actually taken to keeping a dictionary (D!) in our room this year, because this is a common problem. mostly for me.....i can come up with ignoramus a lot better than ice cream, nasal better than nose, malice better than mouse, perfunctory better than....AH! penguin (see?).<br />
<br />
maybe i should take to having a permanent list of things for each letter to refer to so as to no longer have to think on my feet. i tend to feel bad when all i have to recommend for an illustration is "colloquialism."<br />
<br />
but maybe that's just me.Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-71350115915550709642012-02-24T20:41:00.000-05:002012-02-24T20:41:19.042-05:00tastes like encouragementtoday is friday.<br />
<br />
i LIKE friday.<br />
<br />
friday is the day we have chapel and music at school, which means some of our time is planned for us.<br />
<br />
friday is the day i take the car seats out of the back of my car and return them to my boys' mother so that she can give them to the other sitter on monday.<br />
<br />
friday is the day i can stay up late if i want and not have to worry about waking up early the next morning (although i will anyway, because that's just How I Roll).<br />
<br />
friday is my last day at preschool for three days.<br />
<br />
friday night is the night i can have a drink or three or eighty (not really)(seriously, you guys, that's just ridiculous) and not have to worry about the next day.<br />
<br />
this week, friday was also the day that the other teacher in my class was out, and so we had a sub. it was also the one-week anniversary of several.....incidents, shall we say in our class. this lead to the Director of the School stopping in several times. y'know, just to check on things and make sure no one had died.<br />
<br />
at one point, she pulled me out in the hall to talk about something she had witnessed with a couple children, and as we were closing the door, she said something. now, i don't know if she necessarily meant me to hear this, but say it she did. her words? "you're going to become a wino this year whether you want to or not."<br />
<br />
ayup.<br />
<br />
not a necessarily untrue statement, Boss Lady. not necessarily untrue.Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-56994442374665977532012-02-04T09:02:00.000-05:002012-02-04T09:02:01.747-05:00whether or not she knows any beyonce songs is unclear to meGirl and i were having a conversation on the playground yesterday, as we are Wont To Do (that's her favorite place to talk to me, i think).<br />
<br />
we were talking about the slight difference between MISS and MRS (for verily that is the only separation betwixt my name and my mother's, and the children are frequently confused). eventually Girl looks at me and declares, "yeah, you're a Single Lady. and Single Ladies don't get married."<br />
<br />
ever?<br />
<br />
"no, they never get married. Single Ladies are always Single Ladies and they never get married."<br />
<br />
well, SOME of them might.<br />
<br />
"no. none of the Single Ladies ever get married."<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
this is good to know, i suppose. although now i've got to wish my parents good luck on the whole grandparent thing....oh well.Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-6233109308569773372012-01-26T21:53:00.000-05:002012-01-26T21:53:03.782-05:00he's so sweet to meon monday i went to the mall.<br />
<br />
and i got my ears pierced.<br />
<br />
for the very first time in my 23 years.<br />
<br />
as a result, i'm still learning how to sleep, and consequently not sleeping too very well.<br />
<br />
this means i am tired. a lot. even more than usual.<br />
<br />
at school this morning, Boy came walking up to me. he looked up at me with a very sweet look on his face, used his nicest tone of voice. quite frankly, i thought he was about to tell me he liked my shirt or something of that nature, as that face and tone have indicated in the past, but this is what he said: "miss stone, you look TIRED."<br />
<br />
why yes, Boy. yes i do. thank you so much for pointing it out.Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-17965735886857783672012-01-23T11:59:00.000-05:002012-01-23T11:59:27.486-05:00even more disjointed than usual!i've been missing. have some thoughts! or something.<br />
<br />
<br />
<ul><li>christmas happened! it was awesome.</li>
<li>we had a lovely break from school that both sped by and dragged on. it was weird.</li>
<li>over said break my family went to williamsburg. verily we encountered witchcraft and treacherous behavior. there were ladies in trousers all over! most disturbing. (witchy proof [pictures] to come)</li>
<li>if you are unfamiliar with <a href="http://thebloggess.com/">the bloggess</a> and consequently her <a href="http://thebloggess.com/2010/05/the-traveling-red-dress/">traveling red dress movement/action group/thing</a> you should remedy that. because otherwise this bullet point won't make much sense. i got my red dress in williamsburg. my mom bought it for me. also mine isn't a red dress, it's a cape. a real, wool, colonial-style cape that i have wanted more than anything since the first time i read the felicity books from american girl when i was 6. i got it. and it's amazing and beautiful and wonderful and still makes me a little nauseous so i haven't actually worn it anywhere yet. i love it.</li>
<li>another one of my lifelong friends got engaged, which means i have two (2) wedding this summer, and also i have to buy two dresses instead of one because the silly brides wouldn't pick the same color. it was less than awesome.</li>
<li>school started back up! the children are as delightful as ever. my favorite moments from 2012 thus far:</li>
<ul><li>Boy was standing on top of the playscape leaning over to yell at all the other children "NANANANANANA, I'M TEASING YOUUUU!" this, of course, required Teacherly Action, so i went to ask him if teasing was a kind thing to do, and his response was that no, it wasn't. so i asked him then why he did it. his response? "because we have sin in our hearts." i had no response.</li>
<li>our classroom schedule dictates that after we have snack we have sharing and a story. on this particular day, which as particularly trying, we had had cheese and crackers for snack, so i had to put the cheese back in the fridge in the kitchen while the kids heard a story. i walked out of the room and ran into a woman from church who had her 3 year old son with her. after saying hi to them, the little boy (who is the absolute cutest child i have EVER encountered, no lie, and also consequently a complete spitfire) looks up at me and says, "you're my favorite girl." this is the best thing anyone has ever said to me.</li>
</ul><li>i reread all the harry potter books. took me about a week and a half, two weeks. i had to grieve all over again when everyone died. it was terrible. and the deaths are the only reason i haven't reread them again already. i'm not emotionally prepared.</li>
<li>i got a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krumkake">krumkake</a> iron for christmas. and also a book of scandanavian baking recipes. my sister asks me every day if i'm making krumkake now. then the rest of my family looks at my hopefully. including my dog. he's kind of a fiend. it's good stuff. possibly one of the best presents ever.</li>
<li>we had our box unit at school. this means we had the families bring in boxes of all sizes, we made the kids draw up "architectural plans", we put the boxes together to form a castle, a rocketship, a turtle train (i don't know, don't ask), a cave, and something else that just sort of happened that i think each child thinks is something different. so there's that. anyway then we painted them! and now the kids get to play with them. it's good stuff. </li>
</ul><div><br />
</div><div>i think that's all i've got for now. i know you're glad you stuck around for that.</div>Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-35980921251587441362011-12-24T14:20:00.000-05:002011-12-24T14:20:39.256-05:00it's christmas eve, you guys<span style="font-family: inherit;">And while they were there the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a great multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!"</span><div><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />

<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ErlEnNalFlM/TvMxg8FtExI/AAAAAAAAACI/u39QCdiYKwQ/s1600/Motion_Sensor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ErlEnNalFlM/TvMxg8FtExI/AAAAAAAAACI/u39QCdiYKwQ/s200/Motion_Sensor.jpg" width="200" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/11/prweb8926398.htm">source</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
on our One and Only Day of School This Week, Boy noticed it hanging out in the corner, up above the closet the teachers use, and inquired about it. now, of course, this was during snack so the attention of several children was drawn toward it. they all Needed to Know. so i explained to them about security systems, and how it's there to make sure no one comes into our school or church in the night when no one's supposed to be here and it helps keep our school safe when we aren't at school.<div><br />
</div><div>of course, if you aren't safe, there are Bad Guys. so we had to then, of course, talk about how if Bad Guys ever did come in the security system would know and would call the police. i told them it had never happened at our school and probably wouldn't, but you never know for sure so we've got the system just in case. then they had to know what KIND of Bad Guys would come in.</div><div><br />
</div><div>would Bad Guys come and steal stuff? (well, maybe)</div><div><br />
</div><div>would the Bad Guys beat anybody up? (probably not, as the place wouldn't have anyone else here!)</div><div><br />
</div><div>what if the decepticons came? (then the autobots would probably come too and they'd fix it)</div><div><br />
</div><div>what about vampires? (it's only a problem if they sparkle)</div><div><br />
</div><div>what ARE vampires? (they aren't real, don't worry)</div><div><br />
</div><div><br />
they all seemed to settle back down and be Less Concerned About Bad Guys when they heard vampires weren't real. me? i kinda wanted to go back to the decepticons.<br />
<br />
part of me almost hopes they break in in the middle of the night. but then i think about that, and realize that is a TERRIBLE plan. terrible, i say.</div>Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-22672126312872082542011-12-18T20:27:00.000-05:002011-12-18T20:27:02.707-05:00apparently i need a rotary cutter. or Really Really Sharp Scissors.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">so next july the girl i've been best friends with for the last two decades is getting married.</span> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</tbody></table>i get to get caught up on all the details before anyone outside their families (that i know of...).<div><br />
</div><div>i get to stand up front and hold a bouquet (two actually....gots ta hold the bride's during the ceremony, y'know).</div><div><br />
</div><div>i get to wrangle children (which is any different than any other day how?).</div><div><br />
</div><div>and most relevant to the moment, i get to Help Make Stuff.</div><div><br />
</div><div>the current project is the flowers. we're making all the flowers out of fabric. danielle's made (and by made i mean cut out) about a quarter of what needs to be cut. she's halfway through the blue fabric she got. this week i received the yellow fabric. only thing about the yellow fabric....it's tulle. i don't know if you've ever dealt with tulle before, but i have quickly learned that It Is The Devil. for the first time ever, i've had to google how to cut something. apparently when you work with tulle you need a flat surface, a rotary cutter (although if you fail to possess one of those for some ungodly reason then the internet SUPPOSES stupidly sharp scissors will work), a metal ruler, and a cutting board.</div><div><br />
</div><div>and all of that is fantastic.</div><div><br />
</div><div>EXCEPTING for the fact that i am not Desiring to Make a Tutu or a Veil or Anything Like That. i want to make flowers. and i have a template for them!</div><div><br />
</div><div>which has failed me. for verily tulle is hard to trace things on, and harder still to cut intricate things out of. i have progressed to giving up on that and making circles, because circles are much simpler, yes they are.</div><div><br />
</div><div>HOWEVER.</div><div><br />
</div><div>circles are still making my life hard. tulle is stupid. i don't love it anymore. actually i don' think i ever did LOVE it.....i think i'm pretty ambivalent toward it, actually. i think i'm ambivalent toward most fabrics. i don't really care that much. except now i care about tulle a lot. because i have two yards of it, and i must make circles. and some strips. and experiment with it all. and try to make it work somehow.</div><div><br />
</div><div>because i have to. </div>Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-1343635071627759082011-12-16T22:16:00.000-05:002011-12-16T22:16:15.602-05:00am i dead? or am i not??have a hint: i'm not.<br />
<br />
at least, i'm PRETTY sure i've survived thus far.<br />
<br />
it's kind of hard to tell, to be honest.<br />
<br />
i'm a bit run down. and maybe sick? maybe not? i in real and true actuality can't tell on that one. i woke up on sunday and was all stuffed up and such. and tired. REALLY TIRED. sunday was perhaps the worst possible day for me to feel that way. i base that statement on the fact that sunday was the preschool's christmas program and our staff party. i spent about 80% of the day trying really hard not to fall over. <br />
<br />
let me tell you, it was TRICKY. tricky, but worth it.<br />
<br />
anyway, i've spent this ENTIRE WEEK crazy stuffed up and exhausted, with a slight sore throat that comes and goes and a couple instances of a mild headache. so, i'm not sure if i'm actually sick or not. it's really deLIGHTful fun. except for how it isn't.<br />
<br />
on TOP of all this we have our wonderfully BOISTEROUS group of 3 and 4 year old children. they are just the most RESTFUL group of children i have ever encountered, and they have SUCH a calming influence on my life.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipvisvBzT6WPHNVVDC32-J2e9LcB3RQ_RHF_lLOkRrxQ85w02yeesuCJ7EcbQqgqdfFMfo-voU3DHsqXdiNBZFVQQ4lXec55lBDFDBfYVDE7s5byFxDkPO5Tsrn_f5E5PeiT7Axz3JovI/s1600/afbhtaqefd.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipvisvBzT6WPHNVVDC32-J2e9LcB3RQ_RHF_lLOkRrxQ85w02yeesuCJ7EcbQqgqdfFMfo-voU3DHsqXdiNBZFVQQ4lXec55lBDFDBfYVDE7s5byFxDkPO5Tsrn_f5E5PeiT7Axz3JovI/s200/afbhtaqefd.jpg" width="190" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">this is how they make me feel</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
although i SHOULD point out that as...INVIGORATING as they are, they DO have their upside as well.<div><br />
</div><div>FOR EXAMPLE.</div><div><br />
</div><div>--Girl ran up to me on the playground one day (like, RAN to me), exclaims, "miss stone, i just like you ALL DAY!!" and runs away again immediately.</div><div><br />
</div><div>--Girl was one of several waiting for her coat to be zipped before we went outside, and when it was her turn she said "miss stone will you zip my coat?" to which i replied, of course (then i zipped it and made the awesome "i'm-zipping-your-coat" sound i make). Girl gets in line to go out and says, "you're so NICE, miss stone." well, i DO try.</div><div><br />
</div><div>--Girl and Boy got into a hot debate not once, but twice, that ended in discussing the merits of Dora the Explorer. both began when Girl declared she enjoyed a certain program (first star wars, second....spongebob, i think) and Boy declared that said program was HIGHLY inappropriate for their age group and here are some better programs that she should watch. dora was always included. Girl always informed Boy that she does, in fact, watch dora. Girl was also lectured on love by Boy when she sang some unidentifiable piece of music, then informed me she heard it on her pink hello kitty radio and that she loves her hello kitty radio. Boy was very quick to tell her that was wrong, because you don't love objects you love PEOPLE. you can like objects, though. Girl told him that no, she loved her radio. Boy shot back that no, she liked her radio, because you could only love people, like your family, and that she loves her family more than her radio. Girl told him she actually loves her radio more than her family, hah, noooo, that's not true. they went in circles like that for a while. it was fantastically entertaining. (dunno if you can tell, but i LOVE when Boy lectures Girl. it's AMAZING. every. time.)</div><div><br />
</div><div>--ummm........ummmmmmmmmmmm..................................UMMMM..............i'm sure there's other stuff. i'm SURE of it. i just can't think of any more at the moment. because i'm still EXHAUSTED. and really, this class is best compared to a giant game of chutes and ladders wherein, by a stroke of bad luck, you're more prone to chutes than ladders. we've all had those games. you know EXACTLY what i'm talking about.</div><div><br />
</div><div>where was i going with this post? i don't really remember.....but i think that goes back to being exhausted and on decongestants all week. perhaps that was my point.....i'm still here, but kind of incredibly overwhelmed by life this year. </div><div><br />
</div><div>this was long. and probably unnecessary.</div><div><br />
</div><div>...........have this:</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

anyway, eventually it Burned Down in a Great Fire that was caused by candles on a christmas tree and this house has thusly become a Cautionary Tale. perhaps this is why they never restored it, but built a whole new house next to it...i don't know.<br />

i really, really would have liked to walk around inside it, but it was (almost) completely fenced off. part of the fence had been laid down on the ground in the front so as not to interrupt the wedding ceremony. definitely crossed that there line. definitely did NOT wander around inside said line. nope.<br />

oh, i forgot to tell you....the best part of the whole trip? the b&b we stayed at was a Former House of Ill Repute. this was exciting for indeed i had never spent the night in a whorehouse before. and the best part of it being a former whorehouse? the people in the room next to us were honeymooners. we felt it was QUITE appropriate. :)Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-17510491153685518662011-09-17T22:19:00.000-04:002011-09-17T22:19:32.695-04:00calvin and harry<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">this is my dad. and me. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje37SVaepwGx6QOZO3G6I15_skpRjgnesJ23qszKcb9TEM6IMslVJsUhOURsVmisAhQafy-OJ7E4-6in-JL5Sh8dCxik2sM8e37qbZ3cpzWhrFToLhak1LioLLKRq4NaWpatsxuZxywD8/s1600/cruise+2010+70.1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje37SVaepwGx6QOZO3G6I15_skpRjgnesJ23qszKcb9TEM6IMslVJsUhOURsVmisAhQafy-OJ7E4-6in-JL5Sh8dCxik2sM8e37qbZ3cpzWhrFToLhak1LioLLKRq4NaWpatsxuZxywD8/s200/cruise+2010+70.1.jpg" width="200" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<div><br />
</div><div>in case you haven't gotten it by now, i do, in fact, mean harry potter.</div><div><br />
</div><div>in my family, i am by far the biggest harry potter fan. most of us read the books, and enjoyed them, but i'm (pretty much) the only one to watch a very potter musical, allllll of the potter puppet pal videos, and i'm CERTAINLY the only one who has, in fact, taken part in scholarly discussions about harry potter. i have not convinced anyone else how awesome all of those things are. well, mostly.</div><div><br />
</div><div>my father has been known to pull up potter puppet pal videos when bored. which i believe is interesting because he's the only one who never read any of the books or watched any of the movies.*</div><div><br />
</div><div>his favorite? </div><div><br />
</div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Y18LUMkVt2Y?rel=0" width="420"></iframe></div></div><div><br />
</div><div>it's also my favorite. mostly because i'm in full support of beach parties in london, and because i love harry's song. my father also loves harry's song, even though this video is about 92% of what my father knows about harry potter. this song is also why we're here right now. my father was singing it tonight while we were all hanging out together, as a family. following was the final version he came up with.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 22px;"><br />

</div><div>and that is the relationship that my father and harry have.</div><div><br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>*i do not watch the movies. i saw the first two or three and managed to avoid the rest. i hold LARGE grudges against daniel radcliffe and company, for they murdered the harry, ron, hermione, dumbledore, snape, etc that resided in my head, and i am still unable to forgive them for it. i have also been able to hold onto my mental pictures of several lesser characters and settings by refusing to watch the movies. this whole movies-killing-mental-pictures thing is why i am greatly opposed to books being made into movies. it always ruins things for me. always. i could rant about this for MUCH longer, but i'll spare you.</div><div><br />

<br />
this last week.....i did STUFF.<br />
<br />
and some of it was even awesome!<br />
<br />
FOR INSTANCE.<br />
<br />
at this time last week my mother, sister, and i were loaded into my car headed down to spend the night with a couple friends of ours at a b&b in charlottesville, va. friday night there consisted of Drinking Wine and Playing Apples to Apples, and was Much Fun. saturday consisted of Awesome Breakfast, Farmer's Market, and General Wandering About, followed by a Trip to a Vineyard for a Wine Tasting and Tour, which was Also Awesome. (i have pictures of some nifty ruins from the vineyard...whenever i get them loaded on my computer i'll show you some and tell you about them....for verily they were Awesome).<br />
<br />
also preschool started this week. it's been an interesting week. the first day was short, which was kind of nice due to the cancelled meet the teacher, but was also kind of difficult because we HADN'T MET THE KIDS and had to jump right into everything, which is much easier, i suppose, for teachers of older grades. but preschool? that ain't so awesome.<br />
<br />
anyway.<br />
<br />
our class is very boisterous and excited about life and enthusiastic about freaking EVERYTHING. which is both awesome (they actually do stuff) and not awesome (LOUD). i am not, at the end of the first week, sure how this year will go. but! go it will, and awesome it shall be (every year is Awesome in Its Own Way), and i will be desperately upset come may when they all leave me. for this is how my life goes, and the life of every teacher. you get a group of kids, you're all kind of awkward together for a bit while you get to know each other, eventually you get to know each other and while you come to love each other, you also come to reeeaaalllly need a margarita after school (that might just apply to teachers.....i don't know), and sometimes you reeeaaaalllllly want to throw things (again.......teachers only?). but then eventually your year together ends, and you have to part ways, and it sucks all around (one little girl at the end of last year hugged me so hard and tight i had to tell her to let go because i couldn't breathe). and then you have a summer apart to get over each other, and then you get a new group to love.<br />
<br />
and really, that is simultaneously the best and worst part about what i do. the number of kids i get to love. because it's also the number of kids i have to let go eventually.Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-26043567095735806642011-09-08T21:42:00.000-04:002011-09-08T21:42:24.019-04:00the Lord told noah....there's gonna be a floody floody!<br />
<br />
and it's gonna be in rachel's Basement!<br />
<br />
and in her Church!<br />
<br />
which means Preschool gets Cancelled for Tomorrow!<br />
<br />
and also in Many Parking Lots, flooding Many Cars!<br />
<br />
and also in Several Roads, preventing Ease of Travel!<br />
<br />
and it's gonna come on the heels of School Starting! which came on the heels of a Hurricane! which came on the heels of an Earthquake! which came on the heels of the Death of One of the Dogs of the boys she nannys! which means that they've been especially delightful as of late! because they've both got specTACular coping mechanisms!<br />
<br />
well, actually, the older one has a pretty good coping mechanism....he likes to talk things through. the younger one gets kinda.......EMOTIONAL. but he's 6. whaddya want?<br />
<br />
ANYWAY.<br />
<br />
i was pretty excited for tomorrow, for truly it is meet the teacher day at school and i was all ready to meet my class, and the room is all set up because we made sure to have toys and everything out this afternoon before we left so that we could come in as late as possible tomorrow and have as little to do before the kids showed up as possible, and it was AWESOME. the room looked great, we had a good assortment of stuff out, and i was all READY FOR SCHOOL. then i find out school is cancelled because the playground flooded in on BOTH sides. on the preschool side and the sunday school side. <br />
<br />
apparently this is an inappropriate environment for small children. who knew?<br />
<br />
i mean, we still are starting up on monday for realz (well, "monday".....my class doesn't go on mondays, so tuesday for me) and so we get to meet our kids then, but still......i've been so looking forward to this. i do not like summer for many reasons, and a large one of those reasons is my lack of a class. but i suppose it's not so bad, tuesday's only a couple days away, and if i can last the last few months, i can TOTALLY make it until tuesday.<br />
<br />
true. story. i'm kind of awesome like that.Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5896410430079758630.post-81554661413832794712011-09-07T22:16:00.000-04:002011-09-07T22:16:12.440-04:00have a preemptive apology. which i think is also known as a disclaimer? this is only kind of a disclaimer. i think preemptive apology is more accurate.<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4QQzqW1yXFhovZHc0_okBfpPRp_fp5cbsiH-N4CbLO5Egjd-hI5KK9TQ5PucIvtgnFjh5tmrLAuvQmprKWICPm_vWrfcSzKCWv7F931tICDagc6JYk8V0l6eTOBNqMxZGNnBGrEl78Ck/s1600/DSC0220955.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4QQzqW1yXFhovZHc0_okBfpPRp_fp5cbsiH-N4CbLO5Egjd-hI5KK9TQ5PucIvtgnFjh5tmrLAuvQmprKWICPm_vWrfcSzKCWv7F931tICDagc6JYk8V0l6eTOBNqMxZGNnBGrEl78Ck/s320/DSC0220955.jpg" width="168" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">that's me. in my mom's maid of honor dress from my aunt's first wedding. when i was in high school. i was being a fairy. without wings. also? picniked the HANG out of this thing. you probably can't tell.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>so, i've never had a blog before, so i don't really know how i'm supposed to start this. i mean, i've read SEVERAL, and i've got a goodly sized list that i follow, so i'm pretty down with the blogs, and i still do not have a handle on the Proper Way to Start a Blog. <div><br />
</div><div>i have a feeling it's supposed to start however you want it to start, and it should be Unique, like You the Author are. but quite frankly? i'm not good at the beginning of ANYTHING. ESPECIALLY written things.</div><div><br />
</div><div>true story.</div><div><br />
</div><div>every paper i've ever written has been super awesome strong for the WHOOOLLLLLLLEE body. the introduction and conclusion? SUCKTASTIC. also every voicemail i've ever left and email i've ever sent. they all start and end awkwardly!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div>perhaps i was an awkward baby (allegedly i was actually really stupid happy and laughed all the time, or so says my mother)? it seems like it would have been fitting. of course, that would mean i'd also have to die really awkwardly...nuts. i don't think i know any awkward ways to die.....that's probably good. but also means i'll probably be really surprised whenever my Imminent Awkward Fatal Accident occurs.</div><div> </div><div> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSXSfy12PwbrWWO6UYiLzSDlR_OJQwH1f82-oixy5yI0yPCgdyQ-P5aCt5xgyvzjYJkjmemTwTpysCw7JGrQHNsxVWkO9qPbMchf8qCnu1ss-V7zsUCsSCFl0bIdWP7ovAjLoiURTeXTM/s1600/download" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSXSfy12PwbrWWO6UYiLzSDlR_OJQwH1f82-oixy5yI0yPCgdyQ-P5aCt5xgyvzjYJkjmemTwTpysCw7JGrQHNsxVWkO9qPbMchf8qCnu1ss-V7zsUCsSCFl0bIdWP7ovAjLoiURTeXTM/s1600/download" /></a></div><div>also good for you to know? while i have had several educators of mine tell me otherwise, i have not in the past nor do i in the current (present, now, whatEVER) think of myself as a writer. mostly i just ramble. mostly incoherently. i once took a lit class where the professor i guess thought i was brilliant and gave me nothing lower than a 94 in the course of the semester, despite the fact i never spent more than an hour on anything for her and rarely turned in anything i thought made any sense.</div><div><br />
</div><div>also when i talk i usually just let words come out and hope they all work together. that's also pretty much how i'm gonna swing this thing, i think. it works a lot better for me. it'll likely leave you slightly confused and questioning your sanity. i think i'm okay with that. </div><div><br />
</div><div>SO! to wrap up! me=somewhat awkward and rambly. you=probably on something, or a good friend of mine, possibly both, or else i don't know why you're here.</div><div><br />
</div><div>.................yes</div>Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09052300328906331781noreply@blogger.com0
